The OUBB
puts on three successful public concerts per year in and around
Oxford. The band also has a residency at the Bull’s Head jazz
club, Barnes, in London.
Once annually, the band works with a guest artist, usually one
of the top jazz musicians in the country. In 2007, the band
worked with the Oxford Millennium Orchestra to put on "Big Band
with Strings" in the Sheldonian Theatre - to date the only band
of its kind to perform in this space. 2009 saw a return to this
venue featuring Mark Armstrong in a performance of the Solstice
Suite, a major new work of his. In 2010, the band performed with
BBC Big Band tenor saxophonist Dave O’Higgins, undertaking a
selection of works written by the band’s in-house arranger.
Additionally, the band performs at innumerable private functions
and balls in Oxford and beyond. It performs annually at the
Commemoration Ball, Oxford University’s largest function, and at
many other smaller balls and parties. Outside of Oxford, the
band has provided the entertainment for a range of events,
including the Oxford and Cambridge Club Christmas Ball in London
and Princess Anne’s birthday celebrations in Mumbai. |
